History- White Bear Lake, a city in White Bear Township incorporated as a village in 1881. White Bear Lake developed around a resort trade. Its first hotel was built in 1853. The name White Bear Lake and Manitou came from Sioux Indians meaning Great Spirit.

Shopping- White Bear Lake has plenty of shopping. Downtown White Bear Lake the streets are lined with small specialty shops, and card shops. Shoppers can stroll along the streets and enjoy the restored buildings or finding a perfect place to eat. Larger stores such as Walmart and Target have all your shopping needs. North Oaks Village Center at Highway 49 and 96 you will find a restaurants, European bakery, book store and a bagel shop. If your looking for a full day of shopping Maplewood Mall is a short drive and has 130 stores. If that’s not enough The Mall of America is 30 minutes away.

Recreation- White Bear Lake has plenty of opportunity for recreation. It has thousands of acres of parkland, numerous beaches, and golf course to choose from. White Bear Lake's sports center provides recreational, instructional, and competitive activities such as racquetball, walleyball, figure skating and hockey. White Bear Lake's city and township parks offer everything from biking trails to skating rinks and playgrounds. The clear waters of White Bear Lake has five beaches and two boat launches. Within a ten mile radius of the City of White Bear Lake there are five golf course and they are Gem Lake hills, Manitou Ridge, Oneka Ridge, Tannersbrook and Sawmill Gold Club.
