History- Vadnais Heights was first settled by four French Canadian families Bibeau, Vadnais, Garceau, and Morrisette in the 1840s. It became part of White Bear Township in 1858 with a population of 2,000 people. In 1974, an act of the Minnesota State Legislature turned the village into a full-fledge city. Vadnais Lake was named after Jean Vadnais whose family was the first to build a house on the lake. Shopping- Vadnais Heights residents mainly use downtown Minneapolis as their shopping area. Local grocery stores provide your supermarket needs.
Recreation- Vadnais Heights provides more than 100 acres of active parkland which is spread across 14 parks. These parks feature play equipment, trails, hard surface areas, picnic shelters, soccer and softball/baseball fields, hockey and pleasure rinks, basketball and tennis courts, and restrooms.
Vadnais-Sucker Lake Regional Park is a scenic amenity and prized recreational area with 1,252 acres of woods and lakes. The park hosts trails, picnic areas, and on-shore fishing.
A network
of trails exists in the city and it is anticipated that the network
will continue to expand so that the trails may be used year round.
