Location- Richfield is located 8 miles from downtown Minneapolis in Hennepin County. Richfield is 21 miles from St. Paul and 6 miles to the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport.
History- Richfield was settled in 1849-1852 and organized in 1858. It was then named Richfield from its people after Richland its previous name. The city was incorporated as a village in 1908 and as a city in 1964. The first flour mill, named Richfield Mills, was built on Minnehaha Creek in 1854. In the 1940's, Richfield was mainly farmland for vegetable growing and home to dairy and beef cattle. Recreation- The City of Richfield has a great variety of recreational facilities and opportunities for residents and visitors. Richfield has over 300 acres of park land, Wood Lake Park in Richfield has over 140 acres of park land. It hosts several walking trails which are either black top or crushed limestone and most are wheelchair-accessible during the summer months. To preserve the natural habitat no pets bikes or roller blades are allowed. During the winter season cross-country ski trails are open. Within Richfield there is an Ice Arena, an outdoor pool with waterslide, a staffed nature center, a mini golf course and dozens of other programs the city offers. The newly remodeled Richfield Outdoor Pool features a new adventure wading pool, new bathhouse and new wheel chair accessible pool entrance.
