- Plymouth is located 10 miles northwest of downtown Minneapolis Minnesota. Plymouth covers 36 square-miles and is home to nearly 66,000 people. Plymouth's strategic location with Interstate 494 running north and south through the center of the city and Highway 55 bisecting the city east and west. Plymouth also has Highway 169 which runs along the eastern border. Residents in Plymouth have easy access to Minneapolis and St. Paul.

City of Plymouth

 

History- Plymouth was first settled in October 1853, organized in 1858 and took the name of it's village previously platted on Parkers Lake in 1856. The village only lasted a short time because Parkers Lake flooded. The mill was taken down and moved to Freeport which is now called Wayzata. The name Plymouth commemorates the City Plymouth at the mouth of the river Plym in Devonshire, England, where the Pilgrims in the mayflower sailed in 1620 to the site of Plymouth, Massachusetts.

Shopping-Shopping can be found in multiple locations in Plymouth. On Highway 55 and Vicksburg lane you will find Lunds and a Cub foods for all your grocery shopping needs. In the same area there is the Mann movie theater and many individual stores. Restaurants include Applebee's, Doolittles Air Café, Buffalo Wild Wings, Old Chicago. Near the Intersection of 494 and County road 9 (Rockford Road) you will find a Target Greatland Rainbow Foods and many other individual stores. For serious shopping Ridgedale Mall is located minutes away.

Recreation- Plymouth has endless recreation with nearly 70 miles of trails connecting parks, schools and shopping areas and neighborhoods. There is also 38 parks and recreational places and 12 lakes in the city. French Park is located on County Road 9. French Lake is adjacent to Medicine Lake. It has playgrounds, picnic areas a beach for swimming, It also has boat access to Medicine Lake. If you are looking for fitness, Plymouth has Life Time Fitness, which is a 110,000 square foot building with pool, fitness center and Plymouth ice Arena. It includes an eight lane pool to waterslides, two gyms, aerobics room, racquetball courts and plenty of cardiovascular and resistant training equipment.
