City of Mounds View

History- The Township of Mounds View was created on May 11, 1858, the same day that Minnesota became a state. The residents at that time of Mounds View were loggers, mill hands, trappers and truck gardeners who lived in the 23,040 acres of land governed only by the highly democratic township government. One hundred years later, in 1951, the township began to change with the break off of over 6,120 acres and 2,000 people to form the Village of Arden Hills. In the early part of 1957, plans began to incorporate the balance of Mounds View Township. Finally on April 22, 1958, Mounds View Township became a village by a vote of 593 to 452, and remained that way until 1973 when it was made a city by the state legislature.

Recreation- Mounds View offers eight parks offering picnic shelters with indoor rest rooms and kitchen with serving counters and sinks, adult softball fields, sand volleyball courts, basketball court, soccer field, hiking trails, handicapped accessible playground equipment, bang boards, and walking trails. The Mounds View Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department provides recreational, educational, social and cultural programs for residents of all ages. The Department is responsible for: park planning, improvements and development, liaison to the Parks and Recreation Commission, "Festival in the Park" community celebration, facility use coordination, year-round recreational programming and activities, youth and adult athletics, swimming and gymnastic instruction, senior adult activities, after school programming, pre-school activities, special interest classes, and Red Cross Babysitting and CPR classes.
