History-
Maple Grove's first inhabitants were the Winnebago Indians until 1851
when Louis Gervais arrived and settled here. The settlement of farms
and construction of homes, churches and the first town hall were underway
in 1855 when more and more people began to settle in Maple Grove.
Maple Grove became a city in 1954 when the city became incorporated
as a village with a Mayor and Council of four. In 1974, Maple Grove
became a statutory City with the same Mayor/Council format.
Shopping-
Maple Grove's main shopping attractions are located off of Arbor Lakes
Boulevard just north of Interstate 94. The Shoppes at Arbor Lakes
is the newest development in Maple Grove, which just opened in November
of . Arbor Lakes is a unique shopping destination featuring a
one-of-a-kind collection of upscale national retailers, local boutiques,
fine restaurants and casual eateries in an open-air setting. In addition
to the newest development are plenty of stores such as Gander Mountain,
Barnes and Nobles, Cheese E. Cheeses, Arbor Lakes 16 screen movie
theater, David's Bridal, Cub Foods, Byerly's, Wickes Furniture stores
and many more. Enjoy spending a full day or an afternoon and maybe
an evening just shopping in Maple Grove.
Recreation-
Maple
Grove is part of the Three Rivers Park District servicing three fun-filled
parks- Elm Creek Park Reserve, Fish Lake Regional Park, and Eagle
Lake Regional Park, and the North Hennepin Trail Corridor.
Maple
Grove's Community Center is also a wonderful place to hang out on
a rainy or snowy day. The community center offers a skate park, playhouse
nursery, a gym, and ice arena to just name a few things to do there.
