History- Founded as two separate small rural areas, Lakeville Township was founded in 1858 and the town of Lakeville not too far away was incorporated in 1878. The two areas merged in 1967 to become the City of Lakeville.
Shopping- Lakeville’s major shopping area is Burnsville Center which is located less than 10 minutes from Lakeville off of Interstate 35.
Recreation- Lakeville has a total of 53 communities and neighborhood parks, which encompass more than 1,100 acres. Lakeville offers many athletic fields, playgrounds, tennis courts, skating rinks, picnic areas, nature areas, conservation areas, three swimming beaches, and several public fishing areas. There are more than 60 miles of pedestrian and bike trails. For the winter and equestrian enthusiasts, there are also many cross-country ski trails, snowmobile trails, and horse trails to enjoy a day outside.
Lakeville’s Area Art Center offers many unique youth and adult art classes as well as a variety of theatrical productions. This is to promote cultural enrichment and artistic experiences for Lakeville’s entire community. It is formally known as the All Saints Church (one of downtown Lakeville’s cherished historic buildings) that has been recently transformed into a state-of-the-art theater and art facility.
