Excelsior, Minnesota
City of Excelsior

History- Excelsior was founded in 1853 by colonists from New York. The small downtown and historic ambiance sets Excelsior apart from other suburban communities. A bit of that history is preserved in the recently restored steamboat, "The Minnehaha," which in summer takes passengers round trip from Excelsior to Wayzata and back. There is also a restored streetcar and a museum, all preserving part of the City's history.

Shopping- Excelsior offers many small shops for window shopping, little cafe’s, as well as the Dock Movie Theater.

Recreation- The Excelsior Commons is the largest public park on Lake Minnetonka. This is a great park to gather for picnics, swimming, tennis and outdoor concerts. A few miles outside of Excelsior is the Carver Park Reserve, a 3500 acre park offering the Lowry Nature Center, picnic areas, paved bike trails, campgrounds, boat accesses, and trails for hiking, horseback riding, snowmobile and cross-country skiing. Minnewashta Regional Park has 350 acres of pure outdoor enjoyment with 8.9 kilometers of hiking and cross-country ski trails, as well as a swimming beach. The public is encouraged to use the park’s picnic facilities, volleyball courts and the children’s play structure.
