History - Wich a wan- Indian for "where two rivers join" was a natural setting for a trading post in 1849 where settlers began bartering at a log cabin located in a strategic spot which became known as Elk River. Oliver H. Kelley, a farmer, carved out his own plat of land in the area in 1849. He founded the organization known as The Grange in 1867, to help improve social and economic conditions for farmers.
