Location- Edina is located southwest of Minneapolis in Hennepin County. Edina is between Highway 62 and Highway 100 dividing the city of Edina in four sections. Highway 169 and Highway 100 extend north and south and Interstate 494 and Highway 62 extend east and west. Edina is conveniently located 9 miles from Minneapolis and 20 minutes from the Twin Cities International Airport and Lake Minnetonka.

History- Edina was originally part of Richfield Township until it was incorporated in as a separate village in 1888. Edina was developed out of three different communities: the first Richfield Mills, lying outside of the boundaries of Edina, served as a trading center. The second a few miles west was on Minnehaha Creek was Waterville Mills which was sold to Andrew Craik in 1869, a Scottish immigrant who renamed it Edina Mills. The third was Cahill Settlement which was established in 1850s by Irish immigrants. The name came from the flour mill owned by Andrew and John Craik, who named the mill after his home in or near Edinburgh, Scotland.
Shopping- Edina has numerous retail shopping centers, including Southdale, the first enclosed mall in the United States. Other shopping in Edina include the Galleria, Yorktown and Centennial Lakes Plaza. The Galleria also houses several fine restaurants and big Barnes and Noble bookstore, which is adjacent to Starbucks Coffee.The City also boasts a thriving downtown area at 50th Street and France Avenue, known as 50th and France. The first weekend of June, Edina holds the Edina Art Fair where local, regional, and national artists feature their art at this festival.
Recreation- There is plenty of recreation in Edina. There are 39 parks throughout Edina. Edinborough Park is Edina Minnesota's most unique indoor public park. It contains more than 6,000 plants, trees, and flowers. The completely enclosed, one-acre park features a junior Olympic swimming pool, a running track, fitness area, a huge indoor playground. Edinborough Park in Edina has a 250-seat amphitheater which presents a full cultural arts programs. The Edina Aquatic center, located in Roseland Park, delivers summer fun to water lovers to all ages. It has tube slides, a themed cable ride and a popular children's pool which features spiral and tunnel slides. The Centennial Lakes Park in Edina features an 18-hole putting course, lawn games, paddle boats and many other amenities. The park also features the Centrum, a lake side building that can be rented in the spring and summer and is a warming house for ice skaters in the winter. Braemar Arena in Edina is for hockey and figure skating enthusiasts. Braemar features three indoor ice rinks and is available for open skating, hockey, figure skating and offers skating lessons. Braemar Golf course in Edina is 500 acres of rolling hills and scenic lakes giving you the feeling of seclusion within an urban setting.
