History- Eden Prairie was named by American author Elizabeth Fry Ellet, who visited Eden Prairie at the request of the New York Times. She described the place in the resulting article as the garden spot of territory, and the name “Eden Prairie” was derived in 1853. Recreation- Eden Prairie is surrounded by 2,250 acres of parks and 1,300 acres of preserved space giving Eden Prairie plenty of area to explore. Eden Prairie's park system includes over 36 parks providing picnic areas, swimming, fishing, and a giant tube slide at Staring Lake Park. The Eden Prairie Community center is one of the finest in Minnesota, it houses an indoor swimming pool, racquetball courts, exercise and weight training facility, indoor skating rink and a six-lane pool. The Eden Prairie amphitheater is the site for concerts and plays throughout the summer. There is 70 miles of multi-use trails fulfilling all your biking and hiking needs connecting to parks and area schools.
