Location- The City of Chanhassen is located about 20 miles southwest of downtown Minneapolis. Chanhassen has a small town charm with quaint neighborhoods and a thriving business community. Chanhassen has 14,427 acres in 24-square miles. Most of the city is located within Carver County, however, 154 acres in eastern Chanhassen are located in Hennepin County.

History- Chanhassen (originally spelled Chanhassan) is a Dakota (Sioux) name meaning “the tree with sweet sap” or sugar maple tree. This name was believed to be given by Clarissa Cleaveland in 1853. Chanhassen was one of the earliest settlements in Carver County, but it grew at one of the slowest rates until the late 1960s. Until that time farming was the leading industry.
Shopping- Chanhassen has a great variety of small town shops in the area.
Recreation- Chanhassen has a 500-acre park system which features five community parks and 22 neighborhood parks scattered all throughout the community. There's 30-miles of trails and sidewalks for walkers, bikers, runners, and in-line skaters. These trails connect downtown, parks, and neighborhoods.
The Chanhassen Recreation Center provides the public with the opportunity to stay fit by using their fitness room, gym, and aerobic/dance studio. For those all important meetings, the recreation center also has five public meeting rooms that are available for rent.
For the golfer in your family, Bluff Creek Golf Course is a place they will be very fond of. This is an 18-hole public golf course featuring a clubhouse, pro shop, driving range, practice green, riding carts, pull carts and club rentals.
For the gardening gurus, Chanhassen houses the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum. This arboretum is part of the Department of Horticultural Science and the University of Minnesota, and is a great place to visit on a sunny day for a nice stroll in a beautiful environment.
And last but not least is the all important Chanhassen Dinner Theatre, which offers a unique dining and theatre experience, featuring Broadway musicals, dramatic comedies, comedy acts and musical revues.
