Location- Bloomington is a city located in Hennepin County, a suburb south of Minneapolis. Bloomington is conveniently located at the crossroads of I-494 and I-35W and next to the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. The area west of I-35W is locally known as "West Bloomington," and the area east is called "East Bloomington." Downtown Minneapolis and St. Paul is a 10-15 minute drive from Bloomington.

City of Bloomington

History- Bloomington when translated means "flowering fields," which early settlers thought was true when settling in Bloomington along the Minnesota River near Fort Snelling in the 1840s. The township of Bloomington was formed in 1858 and later became a city in 1960. Bloomington is now Minnesota's third largest city with a population of 90,000 people.

Shopping- Bloomington got it's nickname, "the city of hospitality," from the numerous hotels, restaurants, and shopping malls it houses. For the shopping enthusiast, the Mall of America "the largest shopping mall in America" is the place to be with it's shops featuring an indoor amusement park (Camp Snoopy), restaurants, nightclubs, multiplex cinema, and tons of specialty shops featuring Wisconsin cheeses, model trains, educational toys, sports supermarkets, knives of every description, alpaca rugs, Oriental arts and crafts, American art collectibles, and many more. For the sports and outdoor lovers, Bloomington also home to REI and Galyan's which offers plenty that will suffice your outdoor needs, including their famous climbing wall. If you believe in the phrase, "shop 'til you drop," then Bloomington is the place to be with all the shopping located between I-35W and Cedar Avenue (County Road 77).

Recreation- Bloomington also offers many lakes, ponds, parks, and several nature areas for the outdoor enthusiast. The 14 miles of shoreline along the Minnesota River and the Nine Mile Creek Watershed area are wonderful areas to go hiking and enjoy the sounds of nature. Hyland Lake Park Reserve features a massive "Chutes and Ladders" park, which is a wonderful playground for the kids to play for hours and have picnics. Hyland Hills Ski and Snowboard Area is nestled within the 1,000-acre Hyland Lake Park Reserve, which offers extensive winter recreational activities including lighted cross-country ski trails, snowshoe trails and a Nordic ski jumping complex, as well as many downhill ski and snowboarding trails.
