Location- Arden Hills is located in Ramsey County, 10-15 minutes to either downtown St. Paul or Minneapolis and 30 minutes from the airport. The City of Arden Hills lies 8 miles north of the downtown areas of St. Paul and Minneapolis.

History- Before the 1850s the Sioux tribe used Lake Johanna as a resting point on their journey to Rice Lake for the fall wild-rice harvest. Then, in 1850, Charles Perry was the first settler to break ground and plant potatoes on three acres next to Lake Johanna. During this time the land was part of Mounds View Township.
By 1941, the federal government purchased 2,530 acres of farmland for the establishment of an ammunition manufacturing site. At its peak, during World War II, the arsenal employed 26,000 people. This site continues to occupy the northern one-third of the city.
Ten years later (in 1951), the City of Arden Hills incorporates in response to annexation requests by the City of New Brighton. Three residential areas and the ammunition site become known as Arden Hills.
Shopping- Because of its close proximity to St. Paul and Minneapolis, Arden Hills offers great nightlife, arts and culture, great shopping and other wonderful opportunities to have fun and enjoy yourself. Most of the shopping is in nearby St. Paul and Minneapolis.
Recreation- Arden hills offers cross-country skiing and other recreational activities. The city has two types of trails for people to use, each type has a different function: there are the park trails, which are located within a county or regional park, and may be paved or gravel. These trails may take you through wooded areas, open prairies, or active recreation areas. There is a specific mountain bike trail, due to the effect of mountain bikes on the terrain; mountain biking is permitted only at the Battle Creek Mountain Biking Site, located near Arden Hills.
Aldrich Arena, also located in Arden Hills, opened in 1962. At the time, Aldrich was one of a handful of indoor ice arenas within the State of Minnesota. This facility was so popular that nine additional ice arenas were built.
