Location- Anoka is 20 minutes northwest from downtown Minneapolis. Anoka is situated between the Rum and Mississippi River.

History- Anoka was founded in 1850 by Orrin W. Rice, Neal D. Shaw and others by whom its name was adopted in May 1853. Anoka was also known as Rum River by some local residents before 1853. The “City of Anoka” was incorporated by the state in 1858.

Recreation- Anoka has plenty of recreational activities. As a river community, Anoka can offer water sports that include boating, canoeing, fishing and golfing. Within Anoka there are many trails for biking, athletic complexes and an aquatic center and skate park. Akin Riverside Park in Anoka consists of 3.5 acres and borders the Rum River. Its an ideal spot to enjoy the river or have a picnic. Greenhaven Golf Course in Anoka is a full service championship course on 130 acres. Major community events include the Anoka County Fair, River Fest and all the activities of a week's celebration as the Halloween Capitol of the World. The Anoka County Fair is one of the largest fairs in the state of Minnesota, and takes place the last week of July and the first week of August. The Anoka River Fest takes place on the second Saturday in July, it is an all day riverfront festival including a craft and art fair, live music, and of course lots of food.
