The Rosemount City Council is inviting the community to nominate volunteers who add to the City’s “spirit of pride and progress.”
Again this year, the City is collecting nominations of members of the community who deserve recognition for their service as volunteers. Recognition will come during the City’s observance of National Volunteer Week in April.
“Volunteers make Rosemount stronger in countless ways,” said Rosemount Mayor Bill Droste. “Their commitment preserves our hometown feel.”
The City is asking for nominations of people and groups who serve a public purpose without pay. Nominations should be sent by April 2 to City Clerk Amy Domeier, 651-322-2003, amy.domeier@ci.rosemount.mn.us . Each nomination should include the names and phone numbers of both the volunteer to be honored and the person making the nomination.
Volunteer activity in Rosemount covers a wide range of activities, from service to the schools to help with recreation programs.
The City Council plans to recognize as many volunteers as possible during its meeting on April 17. Eighty individuals and groups were honored during last year’s observance.
National Volunteer Week is sponsored by the Points of Light Foundation and the Volunteer Center National Network. Those groups set this year’s theme, “Inspire by Example,” to reflect the power volunteers have to inspire the people they help as well as to inspire others to serve.
Federal surveys indicate 61 million Americans volunteered through or for an organization in the 12 months ending last September. The median amount of time committed by volunteers was an hour a week.
