City of Shakopee’s 2030 Comprehensive Plan Update

Filed under: Shakopee — admin @ 2:46 pm

The City of Shakopee’s Comprehensive Plan identifies its future development goals and objectives. The last update of the Comprehensive Plan that received Metropolitan Council acceptance was completed in 1999, and it looked ahead to the year 2020. The plan is currently being updated to ensure that it continues to meet the City’s needs in guiding growth and development through the year 2030 and that it meets the requirements of the state’s Metropolitan Land Planning Act.

In 2006, Shakopee began this update of the Comprehensive Plan. As update work progresses, the City will verify that the plan remains relevant and reflective of Shakopee’s vision by taking into account developments and/or changes in the community that require adjustments.

The list below outlines the Comprehensive Plan Update topic areas. Once the update team for a specific topic area begins work, a link to more information (meeting dates, agendas, meeting minutes, etc.) on that topic will be available.

Rosemount asks residents to nominate volunteers for recognition

Filed under: Rosemount — admin @ 2:34 pm

The Rosemount City Council is inviting the community to nominate volunteers who add to the City’s “spirit of pride and progress.”

Again this year, the City is collecting nominations of members of the community who deserve recognition for their service as volunteers.  Recognition will come during the City’s observance of National Volunteer Week in April.

“Volunteers make Rosemount stronger in countless ways,” said Rosemount Mayor Bill Droste.  “Their commitment preserves our hometown feel.”

The City is asking for nominations of people and groups who serve a public purpose without pay.  Nominations should be sent by April 2 to City Clerk Amy Domeier, 651-322-2003, amy.domeier@ci.rosemount.mn.us .  Each nomination should include the names and phone numbers of both the volunteer to be honored and the person making the nomination.

Volunteer activity in Rosemount covers a wide range of activities, from service to the schools to help with recreation programs.

The City Council plans to recognize as many volunteers as possible during its meeting on April 17.  Eighty individuals and groups were honored during last year’s observance.

National Volunteer Week is sponsored by the Points of Light Foundation and the Volunteer Center National Network.  Those groups set this year’s theme, “Inspire by Example,” to reflect the power volunteers have to inspire the people they help as well as to inspire others to serve.

Federal surveys indicate 61 million Americans volunteered through or for an organization in the 12 months ending last September.  The median amount of time committed by volunteers was an hour a week.
