Peter MacDonagh
Registered Landscape Architect, Certified Horticulturist and Certified Arborist
The popularity of the Environmental Resources Commission’s (ERC) program, initiated in 2006, to educate property owners about the benefits of rain gardens and native plants, has led to an expanded program in 2007. This year the ERC will be hosting Peter MacDonagh of The Kestrel Design Group, Inc., who will be speaking on landscaping with native plant species, installing a rain barrel to conserve water and creating a rain garden. A much sought after speaker, he was featured on the nationally broadcast TV program, HOMETIME, in a three-part series on lakescaping.
Peter is an adjunct faculty member and teaches ecological design in the Graduate School of University of Minnesota’s Landscape Architecture program. In 1989, he co-founded The Kestrel Design Group, Inc. to provide specialized services in sustainable design focused on stormwater management, restoration of natural areas and ecological development. He has worked with watershed districts, botanic gardens and nature centers throughout the Midwest on water-related ecological design and restoration. Under his leadership, The Kestrel Design Group, Inc. has won twenty-four awards since 1998 for excellence in design.
